I took this photo a couple of weeks ago in sunny Montebello in Canada. Could be a ground squirrel, or a chipmunk or a mouse dressed up for Halloween!

Does anyone know for sure what it is?

Yeah ... that's what I thought! Tiny as well. I also took lots of photos of squirrels which are also tres cute. People thought I was mad - they regard them as vermin. I offered to swap a few zillion rabbits in exchange for all their unwanted squirrels. :D

how amazing is the search engine of your choice?
Is it a Least Chipmunk?:th3:
Reckon it might be, but since it's not a bird I'm not sure.:D

Yeah .... I thought I might struggle identifying anything without wings, but i figured one of you birders might have seen one (while in pursuit of a bird).

Hard to Google a picture although no doubt there's some way of doing that.

Easy!

Go to Google Images.(note you need to be in Google Images, not straight up Google, next bit explains why)
Click on the camera icon in the search bar. If you can't see a camera icon, you're not in google images.
It'll ask you to either link to an image, or upload an image.
Then it'll display results that may look similar to THIS page

Two similar looking squirelly animals shown in the squirrel wiki page. Chipmunk(as Mark says) or Indian palm squirrel(as you're in Canada .. unlikely)

Well, I tried the Google option, and that proved inconclusive, so I have emailed the picture to the hotel we stayed at and asked them what it is - that should do it!

A chipmunk huh ..... excellent! Thanks for that.

You're right ... I didn't think of cane toads - probably because rabbits are cuter and easier to offload. They probably don't need cane toads now that they have Donald Trump next door!

Nothing cute about Cane Toads is there, those horrible warty type creatures. Though if Trump gets a decent hair cut I may be just about able to stomach him when I do watch the News.

I was a bit confused by the "least" bit. Sounded like at the very least it was a chipmunk, but if it was a clever one it could be promoted to a squirrel!!

Then I looked up "Least Chipmunk" .........

If it had got a brown cape over the stripes I guess it would have been a chipmonk.

Well .... the wonders of email have revealed all. Here is the reply I just received :-

"We hope you enjoyed your stay with us. This very cute yet very agile creature you saw is a chipmunk. You could compare it to any type of squirrel though it’s a little smaller.

There are multiple types of chipmunks, the ones we have in Quebec is the Eastern Chipmunk. "
