Hi everyone,

I'm looking into cheap ways to backup photos while travelling (without having to bring my laptop). I came across the Apple iPad Camera Connectivity Kit, and was wondering if anyone has used these accessories? There are two ways to connect your camera to the iPad, including a USB port and SD card reader. It sounds really convenient to me, as my iPad will essentially act as a hard drive.

Thanks,
Min

That (from what I know with a relative having an Ipad) is about right.
BUT - depending on how many shots you take, make sure the I-Pad has the storage.

Oh! What sort of pictures from what camera? Ie, raw, jpeg?

agree with Am. How much free space (memory) do you have on your iPad?

I'll be clearing the iPad before I go, so that has roughly a 60 GB capacity. And I'll be using raw images so am hoping that can be easily stored..otherwise I might purchase some extra memory cards along the way.

60GB is not that much. Most memory cards used in camera these days are bigger than that. For instance. A Nikon D600 can fit about 330 RAW files on a 32gb card, so that is 660 photos for a 64gb memory card. You need to think about how many photos you might take on holiday. You might be better off buying a couple of extra good size memory cards and leaving the iPad at home.

Hi Ricktas, thanks for the advice. You're right, I will be purchasing some extra SD cards also. Just for anyone interested though, I did try out the iPad camera connection kit and it works beautifully. Gives you the ability to review your photos along the way too (without having to import them all) so I think it's worth it in that respect. Just need to purchase those SD cards and I'll be all set :)
