Hi all,

Just wanted to jump on and introduce myself, I've had quite a long break from DSLR photography and just last week decided to get back into the swing of it, which hasn't been easy, completely forgetting everything I knew about DSLR, Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, so am in the slow process of reading, watching and learning all over again.

I have a Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM, although will need to find a cheap but sturdy tripod and also look into a cheap but reliable remote as well.

Am mainly into scenic, car, long exposure, cricket photography.

As I said, it's been a long time since I was into DSLR photography so am slowly learning and getting back into it all and trying to learn new bits and pieces.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself, cheers.

welcome, though you are probably not our definition of a beginner, with your past experience noted. We look forward to seeing some of your photos soon

Yeah, I feel like a beginner though that's for sure, going through all the settings and what not again after around a 8 year break.

OK, here is one I took a couple days back, using the Canon 17-85mm, f/4.5, ISO 100, S/S 1/40, thinking I should have gone slightly higher with the f/ to have the right eye more in focus though, but all up, am happy with the image since it's been so long since using everything.

Hello and Welcome to AP and it wont take long to get back into the swing of thing
Thats a good old camera I have it too and it still works well though I tend to use my newer models now.
Plenty of genres you shoot so will look forward to seeing what you post on the Forums.

I use to take a lot of photos at the cricket while I was waiting to bat, some photos of cars I had, some long exposure stuff, scenic stuff, but lost most of them some time back on a old lap top, so am kind of starting from scratch again.

Post some of your pictures in the CC forums and join in.

Cheers mate, it's been a long time but hopefully with the right subjects to shoot, I can get back into it all and hopefully get better.

Could I get some feedback on the online editing software called GIMP?

Just looking for something besides PhotoShop, cheers.

depends what version of PS you have.
GIMP is free, so easy to try.
