Hi,
Newbie to dslr photography. Have been thinking about getting a dslr for a while and the recent discounts on the Nikon D3300 made it too good a deal to pass up.
So coming from a point & shoot with high zoom, always on auto unless the situation matched one of the pretty icons on the cameras 'scenic' modes (Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ40). Actually takes some very nice shots in good light.
So I now have a 'real' camera and have taken about 800 pics over the past few weeks - we went away to a zoo so a good time to practice. Got some great shots (in my uneducated opinion), but soon came to realise the limitations of the 18-55mm kit lens when shooting animals you cannot get too close to.
So now looking for a telephoto, most likely a 55-200mm after a bit of research. Would spend more and go for a 18-200mm, but want to ensure I keep at it before committing too much. Have had some good advice so far and a 35mm F/1.8 is probably on the horizon too.
Will mainly be shooting kids sport and functions, family gatherings, the usual fare with 4 kids running about.
So lots to learn, lots to spend now I realise how much good lenses are and lots to enjoy.
Cheers.
