Good morning everyone. My name is Brendan. I'm interested in taking better photo's, so I'm here to learn.

I just bought a second hand D5200 with the 15-55mm lens and a 55-300mm (both from the kit I believe). 2500 shutter count, so I figure I'm good for at least another 5 years.

Don't be surprised if you see me asking stupid questions, and I don't mind a bit of banter.

I'm currently living 60km north of Meekatharra in Western Aaustralia at an Indigenous boarding school. It's challenging, and so is finding the time to take photo's, but I'll chip in when I can and you can all play 'Tell Another Newbie Everything'.

Cheers.

Brendan.

Hi Brendan. Welcome to AP.

They say that a stupid question is one you don't ask, so I will be surprised if you do:D

Now to tell you everything... I mean I will tell you where you will find (well almost) everything
a newbie might want to know: In the Library. How to do things on AP, and a guide for beginner
photographers.

And I just found an Inca uv filter on the 15-55mm. Makes it even more of a bargain.

and the first thing you need to do is take it off. UV filters worked well for film, but digital cameras are have an inbuilt filter to reduce/eliminate UV. All your filter is doing is degrading the image quality that the sensor can capture.

Welcome Brendan from a fellow West Australian (although one who is currently in the smoky South West). Look forward to seeing a few shots from up your way in this ginormous state.
