Hi Everyone,

I am a relative newbie and am blessed with 3 great cameras which I am learning advanced features. I have the following
1. Sony A7 with kit lens plus a 50mm sony e 1.8 lens
2. Olympus old-em5 with kit lens plus a 50-210 lens
3. Nikon P900

My question and hoping fellow members can help me decide is as follows
My wife and i are going to Africa next March and going on safari. My requirements are to have a great camera and be able to capture photos of wildlife with my zoom lens.
Which camera would be preferred for my holiday? Would love some help and info from others who have experienced this.
Cheers
Woddy

Faster is better than longer (don't hear that very often [emoji6])

You could consider hiring to make sure you've got what you need.

G'day WOODY,
I use Firefox so not sure what works with Safari.:)
Most members here that know about this stuff don't look at these intro threads. Advise in post #3 is worth following.:th3:

Welcome aboard. Repost your question in the gear talk forum and you will get great answers. But for me I would look for a fast (f2.8) lens of 200mm or more, and often the more the better 300mm..400mm etc. But they also come at a high price. With photography the more high end the gear, the greater the cost. So what is your budget too, cause that will help others give you relevant advice

Yes I hadn't thought of that equation, I love the sony a7 but the kit lens is only 28-70mm with 3.5-5.6 plus sony 55-210
I bought the Nikon P900 simply due to the huge zoom lens 83x, which would get me up close with the animals on safari.
I still love my Olympus old-em5 with 12-50mm, 3-5-6.3 and zoom 45-210 , great photos with these lens.
Thanks for your input.

But at 83x does that degrade the quality of the photos so they are not really usable??

:nod:Hi Mark,
Yes would degrade the photo at 83x , but I don't think you would zoom to extreme and would probably use max of 30x zoom.

Welcome mate :)

I'd probably look at adding a longer faster lens to the line up. It really depends how far you want to go as Safari can lead to very pricey gear.

With out upgrading or buying any new bodies I'd look at the Olympus 40-150 2.8 & 1.4 TC

This is, after all, an Intro post. If you want to discuss gear or get general help, please post in the appropriate gear or General Help forum.
