View Full Version : The last straw
Interesting article here about a finalist in the Nikon Walkley competition where a finalist had to withdraw his entry because he cloned out a single straw! These people take the "no tampering" rule seriously!!

The problem is if you allow one image through with some cloning, where do you draw the line(or straw! :p)
You either allow it or not .. and I can't even begin to image the long term future of the craft if they ever did allow 'just a little bit' of cloning through.
People just can't help themselves, and have an insatiable desire to exaggerate reality in any and every way they can.
Better to maintain a steadfast rule, and remain unyielding to any infractions, rather than risk the eventual degradation of the term 'news'.
The entrant should have known better!
"It was a minor technical breach in a single photo. However, the integrity of the Walkley judging process is paramount, and the withdrawal of the entry demonstrates David's commitment to that ideal."
If he was commited to that ideal he wouldn't have done it??

Dodging and burning are permitted, so perhaps he should have tried darkening the straw piece as much as possible.
How many of the other entries have also been illegally manipulated, but they didn't get caught?

.....
How many of the other entries have also been illegally manipulated, but they didn't get caught?
I think this is the real issue!
And, judging by the way news is now created(twitter/intagram/Fb/etc), it makes you wonder what sort of info we are being presented with as 'news' huh?
Just like Russian sportsfolks ... you can't hide from the truth all your life tho! ;)
