This lagoon at Moore's Beach, just north of Bundaberg is popular with Whistling Ducks. The adjoining Caravan Park is also popular with Grey Gypsies, but in slightly fewer numbers. We were there a few years ago and again in July. On both occasions the duck population was similar. The Whistlers dominate, and I reckon that there were no more than 10 birds of other species.119035119036119037119038

An impressive amount. Must be a rich feeding area, to hold so many.

Lots of swampy country in amongst cane fields. Either the ducks are hardy or the cane farmers are not doing too much wrong. Maybe this is why I saw only a few Whistlers at Mareeba Wetlands a couple of years ago.
I hope you have an umbrella when and if they take flight :D

That's a lot of ducks! Do they all whistle at once?
