Hello Mick and Welcome to AP.. Sounds like a great plan and there are plenty of good Telephoto Lenses around now have you checked out Sigma and Tamron.
Join right in and start posting on the Forums, and have a go at commenting on other Members post also.

G'day Mick.
I'd like that Canon lens but the price 2nd hand made me go for the Sigma 120-400. Great lens but ... :)
