Incredible rockfall 'sculpture'.

This quite incredible 'sculpture' resulted from a rockfall on the 200 foot level of the Victory goldmine in Kambalda WA. There was a breakthrough to the surface, hence the daylight shining down. The miner in the foreground was under solid ground about fifteen metres from the object. Unfortunately, the photo was badly underexposed but couldn't be repeated as further rockfalls destroyed the image. The photo was taken about nineteen years ago.

Amazing !! Thats an interesting face that resulted from that Rockfall.

That is a very dodgy place to be standing. I doubt that he stayed there for very long.

I'm surprised we didn't hear of any conspiracy theories relating to governmental coverups about aliens contacting some ancient Egyptian civilization .... or other such silliness!

Actually he wasn't exposed at all, Steve, as I stated in my note he (an experienced miner) was under the solid ground of the drive. A two dimensional picture probably distorts the perspective and also the reflected light on him.

You will notice it is a dead end on the other side of the image because it was formally a stockpile prior to the breakthrough. If you look at the bottom of the photo, you will see there are fresh tyre tracks there in the same place where he is standing. Obviously, nobody would have been driving under open ground. I will post another photo here which may give a better picture of the area. In this photo he is standing next to the same pillar seen on the left side of the first photo. Incidentally, the drive coming down into that area is just three or four metres to his right. I would also point out, that he is even closer to the open area in the second photo but still under solid ground.

Thanks Mark. As you will see from my reply to Steve, neither he nor I were in any danger while taking these pics. The light was a bit tricky, hence the under exposure (my excuse anyway ;) )
