Hi All I have been taking happy snaps on my iphone for a while and decided to upgrade to a DSLR and do a bit of study to become a better photographer. Got the camera (Canon 1200D) now I need to educate myself about photography. The journey has begun! I would appreciate any comments on my choice of camera, I know it's entry level and the price was right. I have actually even read the manual cover to cover, though still a bit confused.

Welcome. Your camera is quite capable of capturing great images, now you just have to learn how to make it do that. Any of the cameras from the main photography manufacturers these days is a great bit of kit. Most people get let down because they expect a DSLR to do more and take better photos, when the photographer is about 80% of what makes a great photo. So pull up your chair, join in and learn. The more you learn about photography and how your camera works, the better your results will be.

Welcome to AP, and AP has a great library of information and tutorials where you can learn more about photography

Also, I've recently started doing more detailed tutorials on my website - though the focus is on Sony, the application is the same. There'a couple of articles on it already that will be of great use.

A friend of ours insists on going for a sunrise session while we are here so let me know if you want to come along (yep, I'll be teaching her things I don't know :lol2:) .... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?138890-Sunrise-locations-south-of-Newcastle.
Anyway, am seriously happy to get together for a couple of hours to help you on your way.
Pretty sure our pet parrot that's come with us (she thinks I'm her mate:)) would enjoy a Tin Whistle also.:D

Hi Mark
I tried to PM you but I don't have enough posts to PM yet
Thanks very much for your invitation but I'm unable to take you up on it. I busy helping my elderly Dad who had a fall a short time ago and dealing with some storm damage from the last few days.
I hope your sunrise session is a success and you enjoy your stay at Lake Macquarie!
