Hi there all, my name is Kirsten, I would call myself an amateur photographer, I have been enjoying photography for years but have only REALLY gotten into it in the last 6-12 months. I have never done a course (except online tutorials) and have nothing but passion driving me. I do not intend to ever make a living from photography, it's my sanity in a busy life including two jobs (i'm a TAFE teacher + we have our own business), and mother to two boys aged 8 and 10 - yes, busy busy.. but I manage, and I manage to get the camera out whenever I can.

My most recent travel was to Cambodia where my parents and I opened a school that they financed in a remote village, including provision of water filters, solar lighting, educational supplies etc. I have a couple of collections of my images from there.
1. a black and white collection : https://www.flickr.com/photos/imagesbykirsten/sets/72157651033867429/
2. a colour collection : https://www.flickr.com/photos/imagesbykirsten/sets/72157651035329361/

You can also visit my common flickr page for my other images : https://www.flickr.com/photos/imagesbykirsten/

Of late I recently photographed a stormfront over Newcastle which I love.. I love the dramatic nature of a storm approaching.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/imagesbykirsten/sets/72157651374268800/

I currently shoot with a :nlogo: D7100 and find that it suits almost all my needs but still find that a little voice in my head is saying "what next".. think I would stick with Nikon though as it's all I know..

Look forward to learning and collaborating with you all.

Hi and welcome Kirsten.

....... think I would stick with Nikon though as it's all I know..

.....

It's all you need to know. Once you know this much, you have peaked.
Attempting to understand or learn any non Nikon information is a downward spiral into oblivion :p
(I've tried, and have yet to recover from that wayward foray into non Nikon darkness)

G'day Kirsten,
Hope you get involved here (truly).
If you need a reason to take some different photos it's never to late to get involved in the weekly members challenge, a bit of fun ..... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?190-Member-Challenges-52-2015

My better half, our bird and I will be staying at Marks Point the second last week this month. Do you know of any really good places to take photos of birds around Newcastle??
A friend that lives at Swansea doesn't feel save going out early to take sunrise photo. So I'm going with her one morning. Let me know if you want to come and get away from the kids for a few hours. mmm, where's a good place for sunrise photos?:) Our friend thinks a beach, but that's all been done before?

Welcome Kirsten (from another AP newbie). ^_^

Those storm front images are amazing. They're so sharp and the contrast between the darkness and the sun poking through is stunning! Mother nature never fails to disappoint.
