My Sister inlaw went over to Tassie to see her father and while she was there he gave her one of the Macro Ring Flash things.
I have never used one but I have seen some shots that they have help produce.
The only draw back is that the hotshoe section on my Sony doesn't fit the hotshoe on the ring thing.
A little search on ebay and I found just what I needed and will be ordered on payday.
So I will then be looking forwards to with fingers crossed, getting a few good shots off.
The one thing I was amazed with was the amount of adapters that it came with.
But if you think it makes a lot of sense to have so many.

If it's an older one check the trigger voltage before you try it on your camera, I believe they can fry things ( camera) if it's too high, here is link to read http://www.shutterbug.com/content/using-older-electronic-flash-digital-cameras-what-works—what-doesn’t but do your own research first to be on the safe side.

I use one for my fungi shots. They are also apparently good for close portrait work, though I have not tried mine for that.

Davsv1 thanks for those links.
I had a read about of them then googled the one I have got and found out it is for a Nikon camera.
So now I know what adapter I need to get.
I also found out that my one is a 3.6V-6.7V, so it is all good.

I am sure if I never had got this information I might have done the wrong thing.
And this now has given me the time to relax and wait for the adapter.
Thank You.
