View Full Version : Time for a meet up?
So who out there is up for a shooting session in Melbourne some time, I personally haven't been out with any of the guys and girls on here so was looking to see when the next meeting is.
Couldn't find anything so though why not just put it out there and see.
Answers on a postcard..

mee three!
when?
(suggestions):
We have Easter coming up soon.
Maybe one of those quieter days .. eg. Monday ... where there's still some activity about the place, but its not manic(as everyone is on holidays).
add any suggestions for time/dates, we'll tally it up, average it out .. and come up with a plan
Progress,
So far Easter Monday is the go, any availability issues for anyone here?
Secondly who is up for afternoon / night shoot. Still get nice daylight / lighting then afterwards for those who want some evening shots?
Anyone have any preference in what they want to shoot, theme etc? Or meet at a coffee shop and go from there? Can you ever have too much coffee?

Bummer, it seems these days there are more negatives than positives to shift work. I'll keep an eye out in case there is a change.
Filter - what day suits you better? Might be worth having a couple of options

Let's get a few dates and we can take it from there. Nothing is set in stone, I for instance am very flexible. Can you provide dates that work for you? We can put those out there and hopefully all are available on one of those?
Anyone else have any dates the are unable to make to streamline this?

Thanks for the consideration people, the Monday would be the ideal day over Easter. Sat or Sun arvo, evening would be an option for me. Keeping in mind DLS ends on the 5th.
Filter.
I am OK for any time over Easter except Sat am.

Easter Sunday would also be OK if there are enough non religious types trying looking for an excuse to get away from lost lost relos!
I only types in Monday(Easter) as it's usually a day where folks sit around doing not much hoping for something to happen.
Other times are also fine for us to pursue as well.
The weekend after Easter(11-12) I have my kids, and so need to do kids stuff(amongst other stuff) .. but the weekend after that(18-19) I'm also good to go again.
Monday 6th April We have three people interested (actually make that 4, as I should count myself as a people too!)
Easter Sunday 6th April We have 3 people(I'm included in this three) interested ....
any more suggestions?
Confirming I can meet Sun or Mon

I'll put in a leave application with my wife now.
Permission slip signed for Sunday and Monday at this stage. However with the wife being a typical woman she may revoke my permit at any stage without notice or reason. Lol

OK.
Easter Monday is shaping up as the most likely day.
What time(do we start) and where?
I'm happy with any time(s)
Where?(as in what do folks want to see/do).
Places of interest = botanical gardens, docklands, city centre ......

Princes Pier is also a nice option for sunsets and it's close to the city.

Agreed!
David and I ended up there at the end of our last meetup for sunset.
Do we want to make it more of an afternoon/sunset meetup then?
Def up for afternoon / sunset!

Yeah, I think it could work. There is a parking lot near graham street tram stop so that might be a good point to meet up because people can park their cars there (free), walk to princes pier and then catch a tram into the city. If we want to meet afternoon, the graham street bridge has a whole heap of graphiti under the bridge on the basketball courts so may offer some good photos to start.

sounds like a plan MM.
Count me in.
So confirming, we are looking at Monday 6th April
Meet - Princes Pier
Time wise.. around 3-4pm??
Also wondering if there should be a contact person in the event of someone getting held up (or lost!)
Filter - I am also available Sunday afternoons and would be happy for another meet.

We're meeting at Graham Street Tram Stop Parking Lot. Free Parking, nice open place to meet and there is some graffiti around in the shade before we head down to the pier for sunset. It's about a 10 minute walk along the tram line to Princes Pier.
I'm happy to be the person to call. I live about 300m from Princes Pier on the beach front so I am close to the starting location in case anyone arrives early. My number is 0400336580.

Here's one of mine from Princess Pier.
http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/dbtgallery.php?do=gallery_image&id=3711&gal=gallery&type=full
D800E, 12mm, f/11, 1/5s.
Not so obvious info. To achieve the 'silky look' to the water in such bright conditions, instead of using ND filters I didn't have, I used a multiple exposure for the raw file.
10 shot multiple exposure of 1/5s(0.2s) each equates to an equivalent 2sec exposure. A single 0.6 grad used to tone down the sky, but then of course wee bit of brightening up in PP was needed! :p
If you like the idea of the silky smooth water effect in your photography but you're limited by exposure constraints, or funding(for sometimes expensive filter set ups) or even just the physical impossibility of using a filter, as long as your camera has the ability to do multiple exposures(the more the merrier!!) it seems to work fairly well.

My long exposures were pretty uninspiring. I had a darker area that I couldn't see on the camera with the doubling up of the filters.
Haven't gone through my pics properly. Early wakeup with the kids and headed to sydney tomorrow without my mac so will finish up when I get back

Same settings as before D800, 12mm, f/11, 1/5s (with the top image being the 10 image mullti).
Note the only difference is the smoothed water in the top one.
@MM, is the water scene one of the 20 or 30 sec exposures you were doing?(exif has gone all weird).

Hi guys,
Has the photo loading technique been changed? When I click on the "Insert Image" icon, it asks me to load an image from a URL. It's never done this before.
I'll message Rick as well.
Thanks!

Good stuff Ernie.
Love the one of the woman reading her book :th3:(which lens?)
And of course Jim and myself stumped as to why the multiple exposure feature wouldn't work properly!
ps. dunno if you noticed it, but in #1 the skateboarder dude with the camera has an awesome hair style! :D(perfect timing).

Funny that the EXIF data's not there - I processed these in Lightroom and always retain all EXIF. Funny... Shot that one with the Tamron 70-200 1:2.8, at ISO200, 1/800sec, f/3.5.
Yes, he does have an awesome hair style... :-)

Funny: when I load the image from the gallery (as I did above), the EXIF data seems to be 'stripped out', whereas when I load it using the attachment manager, as I have just now, the EXIF data is included.

Can only say bugger for missing this shoot. What a great concept, comparing the same shot from different photographers. Well done all.
Have a day off tomorrow so will try and get a couple of images posted. Some great shots there guys. Looking forward to seeing how the multiples came out after we finally got it working.
