Who knew getting an IPS monitor could make such a difference to your images?!!
After the (un)fortunate demise of one of my two old BENQ monitors I decided to invest in a decent 24" 16:10 monitor (Dell U2415 from PC Case Gear). The difference in image quality and colour representation is phenomenal. I'm still using one of the old monitors as a second screen, and the faint purple hue and lack in brightness are now really noticeable (something I'd never picked up on before). If you are in two minds as to whether it's worth it or not, just do it!

Yes, the Dell's are quite nice.
There is a downside - When I gave in & got a Dell IPS monitor, I had to go back & re-edit my old images that I had originally edited on a laptop screen - they looked awful on the new screen :lol2:
I'm loving my Dell U2713HM.
I notice that much more subtle changes during editing show up than with my previous gaming monitors.
The bands in the the grey scale that this site has at the bottom of some pages all show up clearly, which is a good sign as well.
Will need a more grunty graphics card though one day, in Lightroom editing at 2560x1440 can lag at times.

Congratulations. Dell make some excellent monitors, I have the Dell U2713H IPS monitor and it's a gem. The problem is, due to their excellent IQ, you may be able to see why a photo looks so nice, but others with lesser monitors may miss the extra detail and IQ advantage that you see! :)

Ha! I know exactly what you mean Matt! Just this afternoon I started putting together a blog entry and checked the images I had previously edited in Lightroom on the old monitor only to find that they were hideously dull!
Am, not this one. Here's a link to a great review and technical summary: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm

They do have a range in the Ultrasharp series called Multimedia that start with UZ instead of just U in their model number.
The UZ's have web cam and speakers, they are IPS type, but their max res is not as high as the "U" series and the dot pitch is not as fine.
Can't have your cake and eat it to with Dell it appears.

Ta for that, Dug. It seems there's only 1, the UZ2315H.
Relatively cheap, though. At present I have an (well now at least) older 24" ASUS, 1920 x 1200.
It still goes well, so I can't complain - yet.

There is also a 22 and a 27" in the UZ series, see the bottom of this page

One thing to keep in mind is that the U2415 is the best price point for a 16:10 monitor (I was more interested in vertical work space than horizontal). If you go for a 27" 16:10 (the ones mentioned above are 16:9 I believe) I think the price sky-rocketed up into the thousands.

I have one of the 27" Korean IPS monitors and wow what a difference from my old monitor. Editing is definitely much easier. The display is noticeably clearer as well, because I can read much smaller text on this monitor than on the old one.
