Woohoo! I haven't got any new gear lately(well I got a CPL for my 105macro a few weeks back).... I'mjust posting a woohoo as a pre-emptive celebration for when I forget that this section is here specifically for this purpose.. AND! to say woohoo, a new dedicated section(to something I have a keen interest in.. new gear!!(even if it's old vintage stuff)

:th3:

Didn't you get yerself a new lens recently Dom? .. where a woohoo from yoo? :D

I have a sample shot HERE (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?t=13441)
Although I'm yet to put it at its full potential as i've only used it for high ISO shots so far.

WOOHOO!

Oh! I though you had the 24-70 already??

Now you need the 17-35mm too... and you're done!
(I bet you were expecting me to say the 14-24mm huh? :D)

Becc!!?? .. sleep?.. whadda'ya mean sleep? I still haven't looked at my photos for the day.. I'm just about to start on my third coffee.
I ended up in Marysville, where there are no places to purchase new gear
(had to place a token reference to new gear in here somehere, lest the OT police shoot me down for contempt! :D)
I think I took about three photos before I realised it was just to dark(an dthat I need some more new gear!).... and you think I can sleep?.... yet? :D

The_Scroop
11-06-2008, 12:38am
haha....i wouldn't mind the 14-24 =p
But to be honest, I don't have a use for it at the moment. Sure it'd be nice for the occasional landscape....but I hardly take enough to justify the costs.

Well I kinda did have the 24-70...and kinda not. I had it on order, but the place took over a month. After waiting the month, I cancelled the order...spent an extra $100 and bought it. I needed it before I go away and can't really wait any longer!

Thats a definite woo hoo Peter :th3: and as for trying it out, of course you need to make sure it is working well :D and from then on you can't just let the battery go flat in the camera between now and the 25th, can you?

Woohoo got my 580ex II a couple of days ago.

What an awesome piece of gear.

Although my kit feels a little retarded now. A currently have my 24-105mm f4 IS L attached to my 350d and the 580ex II on top. The camera is the smallest bit of plastic in the whole setup.

Hopefully the 5d/3d/6d is released soon.

I've always found that to be a funny combination. A lot of people in my class have some from the ###D series of canons with 24-70's, 70-200's, 580's, all kinds of huge gear and the camera just doesn't look right on the end of it.

Although come to think of it, my F55 with 80-200 2.8 and SB looked pretty wierd too. I'd say the F55 is smaller than the 350D too.

My wohoo chance has come today

This morning the courier dropped off my new 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM, and 50mm f/1.8

I was smart and remembered to take my camera to work with me today, so i didn't have to wait all day to try them out, but the one thing i didn't plan for was the nearly all day party after radio survey results were released.:sport18:
So i still haven't even had the chance to really do more than put them on the camera quickly, and start to think about the fun that i'm going to have with them :D

Brad, one of the advantages of owning a mobile phone store is our suppliers sell memory cards. Although stupid me didn’t bother to ask them if they sell CF until last week, as mobile mainly use Micro SD cards.

If you would like me to get you a price on cards, send me a PM with what you want.

With all the new cameras, lenses and filters being celebrated I thought I would add our latest "woohoo".
After being used to the luxury of a cheap remote shutter release for the D50, $100.00 + for a corded remote release for the D200 was a bit steep  so a $9.99 ( + Del.) Yongnuo (http://www.oztion.com.au/buy/auction.aspx?itemid=4652211) seemed worth a try.
It arrived today, has twice the build quality that I expected and works perfectly with no issues.
The best part was it can be bought from Oztion (http://www.oztion.com.au/) instead of eBay thereby avoiding the eBay double dip on paypal accounts.

Hi Brad. I was actually pricing these yesterday. Go to www.sandisk.com.au/retail/buy.aspx
then go to Australia and there is a whole list of suppliers who sell them. I checked them all yesterday and Cheap Chips is the cheapest along with IT?. $42.95. The reason I did it this way was there are alot of fake Sandisk cards out there I only want genuine. Anyway have a look yourself and see what you come up with. :D

I ordered a 17-35 F2.8 from fabian at NGP yesterday. So when it arrives I will have a decent wide angle lens for the D3. Though I am still using the 10-20 with the D200.

Got the Tamron f/2.8 about two weeks ago!! Really happy. Not yet fully used it but I like the results so far.

Just ordered...

1.
a set of Three Flash Diffusers for Sigma 500 Series, 530 Series flash units including EF DG Super Models. This set comprises of Flash Bounce Diffusers in omni shape in White, Green and Gold Colour.

* Green color diffuser is used to enhance flourescent light increasing colors;
* Gold color diffuser is used to warm skin tones. Use of this diffuser gives much improved results in close up shots;
* White color diffuser is used to soften the photos and to give ultimate bounce effect.

2.
Off-Camera HD P-TTL Off-Camera Cord for Pentax. These heavy duty P-TTL cords are designed to fit Pentax Digital cameras that use dedicated flash units. They feature a molded shoe on one end that slides onto the camera hot shoe and locks to prevent accidental dislodging of the shoe. A second shoe mounts onto a flash bracket or light stand via either a standard foot with lock or a 1/4-20 thread. The top of the shoe accepts the flash unit.

3.
Infrared Remote Control for Camera Pentax. This is a longer range (15m) vs the 5m of the Pentax F unit.

It's finally on it's way. Have been informed my new Canon lense shipped yesterday and will receive Monday. Bum, it means another weekend without it though. 12 days that will be that I have waited. Unfortunately my order was one of those that got a little stuffed up by human error. But it's coming now that's the main thing.

Look forward to seeing your work with this one Kym.

As the dance thing is this Saturday I'll stick with the K100D Super for that, just don't know my way around the K20D yet.

They are similar, but the K20D has at least twice the options in the menu's and many more external do-dads.

Still Waiting for the Li-ion to charge before I fire up the K20D.

Great stuff Paul, on both counts. You'll have fun with your monopod and it doubles as walking stick when climbing up big hills (well mine does ;) ).

Lani, the heads are usually rated by load, so you'll need to know the weight of your camera with the heaviest lens you own (or plan on acquiring) and make sure the head you decide on is rated for that load :action66:

None actually. I screw the monopod directly onto the tripod mount on the lens and use the lens collar adjustments to move quickly from vertical to horizontal. Probably means that the thread will wear out quicker on the lens foot, but, small price to pay for conevenience and stability to me.

I do have a Manfrotto monopod head and quick release plate (cant recall which one) that I started using some time ago, but found it added unnecessary wieight and movement.

Very nice! I've been looking at getting one of these (not sure which model yet) so would be interested to hear what you think of it, once you've had a chance to play. :)
The screen is very nice & the resolution is quite good and I like the fact it has a good non-reflective surface. Folk with thicker fingers may find some of the buttons harder to get at but fine with my little narrow ones. It handles the RAW files from my 5D pretty good but haven’t tried to download any from the Mk III yet. It’s very easy to use especially for one so non techy as myself , I’m mighty chuffed with it.
It’s very light at approx 300grams with the battery pack.
Downloaded 2gb of data from the 8GB Extreme IV
Transfer time - 3 minutes

Nothing spectacular here for us this month, car tyres cost about the same as a good lens.

But ---- a few goodies.

A grey balance preset "card" , it twist folds into the small bag at front of the pic.
Sourced from Melbourne for $30.00 delivered.

A secondhand SB-26 speedlight, for use as an off camera light in conjunction with the SB-800, it will either work with a synch cord or as wireless slave.
Sourced from QLD for $60.00 delivered.

A radio flash trigger transmitter and receiver for either studio lights or off camera flash work.
Sourced from Hong Kong via ebay :D for $35.00 delivered.

A secondhand Lowepro slingshot 300 AW for SWMBO
Sourced from Melbourne after an idle search of ebay for $90.00 delivered.

Yay...I can add to this thread today (it wasn't around the last time I bought gear...which was only 2 or 3 months ago!)

Now, this one is more of an "ours" purchase (the wife wanted them as well), but I picked up
2x 300W(GN55) monoblocks
2x light stands
2x umbrellas
1x Softbox

Yes, they are generic "Chinese" lights (Photogen. I have had quite a few encouraging comments about them), but they should keep us out of trouble for a while

I just got my D300 at the start of this week, remarkable camera, you'll love it!

I would be interested to see how you like the 70-200 on the D300. I don't need that focal length enough to justify the nikkor, maybe the sigma is a good alternative value wise.

Bugga about the AF with it, the AF works with my Nikon 80-200 but it is much slowed down. The incidence of a good shot with the 2xTC is not high, but I have achieved some great results, more bad than good admittedly  It is hopeless for long distance shots covering a lot of ground, but for small birds and the like from 30 or 40 feet away to simply fill the frame it works very well, good for the back garden variety Rick.

Well I seem to be getting lots of little bits lately, but they all count I suppose.

Picked up a set of 3 Kenko Extension tubes Today. Second hand, but they don't look like they have ever been on a camera.

Whats next -
Need to organise some lighting now that I can get close to things again. Actually I can now properly test the LED macro light that I have built.

Full Frame - Probably 5D (can't really justify a 1D) and a good 24-105 lens to use with it.

Light tent and Sandisk card reader turned up today. I'm bloody glad they are! I have 45 parts to photograph for a catalogue going to the printers Friday! I don't have a CF reader at home, and the one in my office machine is slow so I bought the Sandisk reader. It was only about $10 more expensive than a generic so wasn't complaining.

Will give credit to 2 eBay stores, 1800Memory (http://myworld.ebay.com.au/1800memory) - awesome communication, certified genuine, looks it to me, Infoserver (http://myworld.ebay.com.au/infoserver) - I thought the freight was a bit expensive, but turns out this thing is quite heavy. Looks to be pretty darn good quality too.

Both items turned up in 1 week from order, and both shipped from an Australian address!

Hey Amy, I got it from Cameras Direct http://www.camerasdirect.com.au. I love it already! :love0:

This is the Small Bone Leather bag which is $198. There are also non-leather ones for $145 and medium size bags in either leather or suede for $249.

The inside is full of moveable dividers and I'm still fiddling with the layout. I managed to fit a lot more stuff than the Jill-E website indicates - so far I have my camera body, 4 lenses (including my Sigma wide angle), speedlight, battery charger and cable, rocket blower, lens cloth, Sensor Sweep, gorillapod, two filters, spare batteries, spare memory cards and remote release.

It's reasonably full with this much stuff in it and if I were planning on walking around with it I wouldn't put this much stuff in as it makes it hard to get the camera out. I'm going interstate for work tomorrow which is why I've put so much stuff in there. Once I get to my hotel I'll remove some of accessories and it will be fine to walk around with.

It also has a padded shoulder strap.

It is very un-camera like - I love the fact that I'll be able to take my camera to weddings, dinner parties etc and no one will know until I pull it out of my 'handbag'. :)

I was pretty surprised how much of my kit I managed to cram in. I didn't try to squeeze in my 55-250mm and there are still things like extension tubes, Copperhill kit and my Cokin holder + several filters sitting in my Mini Trekker that wouldn't fit, but I don't really need them for my trip this week anyway.

It "just" fits if I take out my other lens but really I don't see myself using it much other then when I want to set-up somewhere so it can live in it owns little carry bag which it came with.

I just bought plane tickets to Canada, where I'm headed off to live and work for the next 7 months (and maybe even longer) so I figured I needed a nice big bag to put ALL my camera gear and large screen laptop in for the trip over there, and still be able to use it for trekking around the place in what is a spectacularly beautiful country...

Not so long ago, this arrived. Overkill perhaps, but as a storage bag for my gear I think it will do the job brilliantly, and as my gear grows, I won't have to upgrade my bag, as I'll have all the space I'll probably ever need LOL :D

Introducing the behemoth that is the Lowepro Computrekker Plus...

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/MightyEFIIXR8/About%20Me/Lowepro001.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/MightyEFIIXR8/About%20Me/Lowepro002.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/MightyEFIIXR8/About%20Me/Lowepro004.jpg

Even loaded with all my gear, and a laptop, it is extremely comfortable, and is really well designed ergonomically, as it does not seem to put any strain on my back at all when the fully adjustable straps are set correctly.

If you were after a BIG pack for all your gear (and the "plus" is a BIG pack), that won't break your back, I would have no problems recommending this monster :)

Yay! Off to Canada now!

I don't mind - I actually got it from Teds Camera's here in Brisvegas for $320.

I've also ordered the lid organiser for another $50 to put all the little bits & pieces

I was a little stressed about whether it would fit it my sports kit, and really happy with how it's panned out - it was fun "pluck and picking" the foam. Though I might sooner or later get dividers as they can fit in a lot more apparently - but - they are over $100 extra.

I did not really want a bigger case if I did not need it, though 1650 was going to be the next one up.....plus it will make a nice seat on the sideline.

I bought it as after lugging my gear about with a backpack was starting to wreck my back !!

No logo, Michael..... actually nothing other than the tent and backings, I couldn't work out how to fold the damn thing back up lol. Possibly just the same thing but without a logo stitched on. It is probably not as good a quality as some of the others around but as I am not sure how much I will use it, it is good value for the price. How much are the Kast ones?

Well the Kast 80cm one was $99!! So I'll be getting this one off eBay too. Ordering one right now actually....

Not going to use it that much either so if it's slightly poorer quality who cares. As you say it's no doubt from the same factory without the logo anyway...

Haven't had much time to use it, but first impressions are that its a great little camera, it seems to have all of the functionality of my D300 just with the different build and AF system.
It's awesome with a nifty-fifty fitted and the high iso performance & metering are really good.

I'd choose a D90 over a D200, the image sensor is improved quite a bit for anything over ISO 400, the high resolution screen is great for checking focus,
the only -ve is the strength of the body.. if you don't hammer your equipment then this shouldn't be an issue.

Nah only got the bag from PC. Looked at the tripods there though and decided I would bite the bullet on a Slik tripod on the way home. So we stopped in at Strathpine Cam House. We were in PC from about 12-1pm.

They have nice bags there now. Even nice girly bags. Pity they are so dear. I hope you are happy with your tripod. You will give it a workout on Saturday night.
We walked out of there at 10:30 so we missed each other. See you next weekend anyway. Cheers. :action66:

Just picked up a used Tokina AT-X SD AF 300mm f 2.8 for $1000.00 in as new condition, normally around $4000.00 :D :D :D

Used it first time today and blown away by the performance of this lens, semi-lightweight for a lens of this size and wonderful bokeh it seems...tickled pink atm. First picture with it, hand held in portrait section of Kyms friends child.....I think me and this lens are going to get along very well :D

That makes three bodies now. D300, D2Hs and D3. Will sell D2Hs (or if not enough $ will keep)

I just have more money than sense :)

Seriously though, I need the D3 for the candelit kids sport and event work I earn most $ on (that's my justification anyhow and don't convince me otherwise :) )

Not that necessary for Suncorp-Metway as you only need ISO1600 there and the D300's fine for that.

Brought lense around July/August. Works great on both my EOS 50D & 400D. I take alot of Aircraft Images, works really well when panning, OS help a bit with static aircraft, AF spped is great/fast on both bodies. Weight is on high side, but is very well balanced when on camera. Monopod adviced if using at sporting event but not for aircraft. Not a sigma ex model doesn't matter the build is as good as my 70-200 f2.8 EX. Great lense for focal lenght and price.

Phones only handy if it doesn't get wet it seems lol lol

Went to Camera House in the Central Market, Camera House in Grenfell St, Diamonds in Rundle St and finally bought it a Teds in Rundle St .Prices were pretty similar in all shops, but different gear in each, $700.00 all up with legs and ballhead and two plates. Cant wait to try this particular ballhead out, seems to what I'm looking for in a particular price range. Should be extra good for bird photography as it enables me to shoot an image from 90o up and 90o down without remounting the camera, just right for those pesky birds that fly from ground and a split second later are up a tree. The lack of this function in pan tilt heads has often been a problem when speed is of the essence from ground to sky movement.

Now if I can just get a new stable body { , human, both younger and my own } I'll be on a roll....unlike atm the main rolls being around my middle and along the ground when I trip over my own feet as has been the case lately lol lol....I love getting older  :(

Had this little fella arrive at the local store today. Can't wait until the drags tomorrow to try him out!

Gee this lens is made well. The zoom has a great feel to it and the general construction is great, the lens hood is meaty-as. Manual focus has a really short throw, which could be tricky, and lacks a little bit of damping, but it is pretty good.

All in all for just over $600 locally I'm happy.

Will throw the new version of the firmware into the D300 tomorrow and go out for a big day shooting!

My new gear is my Sigma 70-200 2.8 :D

So this year I've bought that, and a EF-S 17-85 IS - which are now my 2 lenses, along with the nifty fifty (the 18-55, 28-80 and 90-300 are now pretty much redundant).

And I bought both from this forum!! Woohoo!!

Now I'm just keeping an eye out for a cheap 2nd hand 40D....

Did you get the current version or the older one?

I got the current one just before Indy and from what I've experienced I am a big fan. You'll love it.

ABC and I are now the proud owners of a brand new:
Nikkor AF-s VR Zoom 70-200mm f2.8G with UV Filter

So we should tell the media that the baby bonus is NOT used to buy plasma TV's but new camera gear.

Now I'm glad I've been carting our new bub Patrick around so much as you need some muscles to use this thing, it is massive and heavy, but oh so pretty :)

Hope to get out and start shooting with it today (despite the rain)

EDIT: I should also note that it is worth almost as much as my entire rest of my kit... sounds like time to upgrade the camera :D

The older one. But that's ok, I'm still happy with my purchase - it's way, way sharper than my Canon 90-300 which it's replacing.

Onya Cath. :) Besides, it'll be used for Patrick for sure... just the very best photos from that lens.

40D purchased :D

Still have to sell my 350D, could easily keep it but I don't think I'll ever need a second body.

All I can say is wow, a little more serious isn't it. Lifting the 350 with battery grip is nothing compared to the 40D without the grip.

In addition to the Canon 5D I picked up last week, I just picked up the Canon 580EX II Speedlite.

Looking forward to getting to know the new toys. I am glad that the flash I already had is compatible as a Slave for the 580EX. Should be some fun to be had there experimenting with the duel flashes.

Still have a couple of things on the wish list but they might have to wait a bit now. Might sell of a couple of things that wont be getting much use to make some money for the wish list items.

Wish List:

EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM

Your not wrong! My 350D's battery seems so minute now :D Congratulations on everyone's purchase. Now let's see the goods :th3:

I've heard some reviews that say the older version is better than the new one mate. Hence my curiosity in which one you got. Nice buy :D

I had to pack it up so here we are. Now I just need to bin the Sunpak's, ditch the 18-55, purchase a few Sigma Flashes and some more cactus v2's. Next up is a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 and maybe a battery grip for the 40D.

I might have to look at that bag. Good setup and everything is there for you. Congrats on all the gear.

LBAtion struck again..... this time round it was a Sigma 28mm f/1.8 Macro. Hoping to replace my beloved Canon 50mm 1.8 mkII which is a tad too long for my crop sensor. Only down side is that the Sigma is freaking huge compared to the nifty fifty. Half a kilo of glass and takes 77mm filters.

Nath.

Planned to fork the bill but my old man just told me it's an 18th and early Xmas gift. Got an upgrade to 8GB CF too :D

Was told by the saleswoman that this lens is set to shoot up to 1k in a month or two  Good to re-sell!

Congrats, Nigel it's a ripper of a lens. :th3:

Speaking of toys, mine arrived this morning. :D The 100-400mm isgoing to take a little getting used to, especially if I use the extender (which renders all back to manual-mode), but so far so good. I'll give it a better workout this evening when it cools down and when the birds come into roost.

WoooooHoooo Helen...a big congrats. You're gonna have fun with the 100-400, let me tell ya...but be wary of carrying it around in one hand for any length of time. Cheers :food04:

Why would a lens go up in price so drastically?

Hey Bax...hang on to the 350 body...always good to have another lens hanging of it so you don't have to keep changing. Cheers :food04:
