LOL! I was curious as to why they have an update for the D90, so I went through most of the update information.

Most of the updates seem to be for an impending new Distortion Control firmware update that is about to be released.
The older/current distortion control firmware ID is something like L:1.009(ie. a version 1 of the distortion control data) but in Nikon's info about these new camera firmwares, they refer to a new L:2.000 distortion control data update.

The D4s has a lot more updates/fixes than this simple distortion control update to some of the other cameras tho. In fact there is no mention of the new L:2.000 distortion control firmware for the D4s.

D610, D600, D7100, D7000 and D90 all seem to be updates for the purpose of allowing operation with the new L:2.000 firmware(not yet currently available).

I reckon Nikon need a shot of Dare (iced coffee milk) .. it seems that their place is all over the head or something.

Most of these new firmware updates are for compatibility with this latest Distortion Control2 firmware L:2.000 series, yet they've made it close to impossible to actually find and download the DC2 data L:2.005 version of the firmware update.

THIS (http://www.nikonimglib.com/dcdata2/index.html.en#os-windows) is the link to the latest L:2.005 version of the in camera firmware update.
If you try to find the latest distortion control data firmware by searching Nikon's firmware database, you're only taken to the last of the v1 firmware updates .. which is L:1.009.

What's even more curious are the models of camera that allow this update. D90 is included, yet it's an older camera than both a D300s and D700, but the D300s and D700 aren't included! Why D90?

All the models currently listed (other than the D90) on the DC2 download site, all make sense as they're all fairly recent models .. but D90(and not D700 or D300s) doesn't make sense.

Also a reminder about the DC firmware for the camera. It isn't an important update, UNLESS you like distortion minimized jpgs straight out of camera!
If you use Nikon's software and shoot in raw, the distortion control feature will be included automatically in the raw files, so the raw file will be rendered with distortion minimization(not eliminated!!) in the Nikon software, where applicable. (remember that CNX2 can't open raw files from the D810, and newer cameras)

CNX-D and CNX2 can both be used to set/unset lens distortion on raw files irrespective of whether the feature is enabled in the camera. So if you don't use the distortion control feature in camera on your raw file, both CNX2 and CNX-D have the feature available anyhow.
ViewNX2 has no ability to enable/disable distortion control at all. if you have it on in camera(on your raw file), the image will be rendered as such in VNX2.
