Hi,
My name is Stuart and I live in the Blue Mountains with my family. I have owned various SLRs and DSLRs throughout my life and was introduced to photography by my Mum when I was about 10. I have always felt I never progressed far enough with photography in a short period and wound up putting down the camera until the next jolt of inspiration came. This time around I have been prompted as I am completing an archaeology degree and photos are a big part of our record. I have a trip to Port Arthur in a couple of weeks for a class and my lecturer has said cameras are mandatory so I have dived back in. This time I have also changed my method due to advice from pro's - only manual, only raw, 50mm f1.8 for the most part and join forums. I upgraded my 400d to a second-hand 50d with a low shutter count and also purchased a sigma 18-200 DC (the discontinued non OS version) which was going for cheaper than the nifty fifty. I know its a big spread but reviews seem quite good for the glass and I just wanted a second option. My next upgrade will be the cheaper 70-200 L lens that canon makes but not for a little while. So two lenses, all manual, all raw - lets do it.
Here are one of my recent shots from work where the guys let me play. I discovered this time that I love muted colours when converting from RAW so I think I found my style after twenty years. Its also interesting as I have been told by one person that it is a bad picture and by others (more) that they love it so it highlights the subjectivity of photography. Me personally, I like it. I wanted to capture the grime and grittyness in the photo.
