Canon 430 EXII Speedlight. Question

I goofed and bought a 430(EXII) instead of a 530(EXII)

Where as the 580 can "Master" other flashes the 480 can't.

But I was wondering what "magic word" do I put into Mr Google to get a camera mounted remote flash trigger for the 430.

(yeah, I shall try that but just thought it would be ok to ask here.)

Firstly, there is no such thing as a Canon 530 EXII, so you could not have bought one anyway.
Secondly, unless buying second hand you won't get your hands on a 580EXII any more, so you need to look for a 600 EX-RT

As for remote triggers, there are many and varied different makes and models.
The Canon ST-E2 will mount on camera and works just fine with your 430EXII Speedlite

I've been using Phottix Odin triggers with my 2x 430 EXII's. They have never missed a beat.

I have been doing that too.

Dumb question:
On "evil bay" I have seen a speedlite 580 EX II for $155 - brand new.
And!
A CANON speedlite 580 EX II for $630.

Ok, the first isn't a CANON, but it is a speedlite 580 EX 2. Is that going to work? That can master the 430 I have I believe.

Decide whether you want to use TTL or Manual mode only on your flash.
Yongnuo has a ttl trigger for about 90$ a pair, but if you only ever shoot manual flash mode... you can get a pair for about 30$
I have used both and have yet to find anything wrong with them.

They also have canon compatible flashes you may want to look at, if you're looking for cheaper external light.
Manual-only for about 90$ and TTL for 190$. I have not used them myself but heard that they're quite good.
I have, however been using the old canon flashes. the 420ez and 430ez
They are manual mode only, but you can find them on ebay for about 50$...

That is why you have to be careful on ebay. The 580 II is still "not cheap". I would avoid the $155.00 one as it sounds too good to be true.(we know what that means) The new 600 series is cheaper than the other 580 II you quoted. Grey import of course. I have a canon 420 EX that works fine but I'm pretty sure it can only be used as a slave or as an individual unit on your camera. I bought this for my film camera years ago and works fine on the 7D. And I might add that I am not in anyway an "expert" so take it for what it is worth. cheers Brian

+1 for the Phottix Odin radio triggers. I use them with a 430EXII, 580EXII and Yongnou speedlights - all with no issues.
I don't like relying on the Canon infrared system for triggering as it gets a bit hit and miss sometimes

It says NEW and so I would believe (yeah: Dangerous word) it was legit.

I guess I am confused about "speedlite". Is it strictly a Canon name, or is it that speedlite are a brand and Canon have bought into it with their versions?

ok if you notice, it says "speedlite flash "FOR" canon" not "A" canon flash... these are the ishoot PL-582C, and if your gonna ask me if they are any good......well i wouldnt know as i would not waste my money on anything with such bogus advertising

yes new is correct, new piece of s@#$.... like i said you really need to read some of these adverts, as they can be misleading
