I used to be am member of this forum some time back but have been out of the country...so here I am again. Live on Sydney's northern beaches an have been a keen photographer since early film days. Am a member of APS and my local camera club. Current camera is a Canon 7d...which I love. I am thinking of buying a Fuji X100 S for street work and permanent carrying and would welcome opinion from any forum members that own one. Thanks, Mike

Welcome back Mike.
You'll get more response for your question about the Fuji if you start a threat here ... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?32-Camera-Lens-Gear-Talk
More people will look there than in these intro threads.:th3:
Hope you get more involved on AP, since you've come back.

Welcome back Mike,
in point form re the X100S:-

If you have a patient approach towards menus and image capturing the camera will work for you. The many settings available need to be heavily explored ( and remembered ) because the manual can be less than enlightening at times.

Battery life is not fantastic and the battery power remaining indicator is abysmal! Be prepared to buy ( and carry ) at least 2 spare batteries with you for any given day out photographing. The supplied battery charger has a reputation as being prone to failure ( hopefully when, not if, it fails it will do so within the warranty period ) but the upside is that the batteries are small and light and can be bought very cheaply along with a charger from reputable non OEM suppliers.

The genuswine optional lens hood is priced as though it is gold plated, the JJC hoods available through AP site advertiser Phottix (http://www.phottixstore.com/index.php) are as good as if not better than the original at less than 1/2 the price.

I thoroughly enjoy using it as a travel and carry around camera, it will fit in ( large ) pockets of shorts or trousers and about a year into using it mine is about to head off on a another trip as the only camera I will be taking.

If you want to get the best from the raw files and you are using A$obe products you will probably be disappointed as it appears that they still haven't got a proper raw conversion worked out. Better software is out there at a cheaper price and I favour Photo Ninja.

I have posted some images and thoughts at http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?120124-Fuji-X100s-first-thoughts and AP member Matt has quite an extensive collection of images and thoughts at http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?118210-Fuji-X100s-ongoing-review&p=1142461#post1142461 and http://stingrayjunior.wordpress.com/
