CS4 problem

due to file corruptions, i have lost my copy of CS5 given to me by daughter's ex-boyfriend.
i have downloaded my CS4 again, but it will not open RAW files. it comes up with an error message ' could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document'.
it will open jpeg files ok.
what do i need to fix this error?

CS4 might not be compatible with K7 files. When a new version of PS comes out, they stop offering compatibility on the old(er) versions for newly released cameras. It could well be that cs4 will never be able to read K7 raw files.

But you can try running the updates inside CS4 (Help>Updates) till no more are available. Otherwise you need a RAW convertor like Adobe DNG convertor to convert them into a format that CS4 can read.

i used CS4 with the K7 before getting a copy of CS5 from my daughter's ex.
i will try the update, and if that doesn't work i will be seeking advise as whether to get lightroom or some other software.
