I was out in Royal National Park today, 2nd January, returning after a leisurely 10km walk and photographic ramble, when I stumbled onto a small party who were all carrying very long lenses. Curiosity overcame me and I walked over and started talking with them. They were photographing a Willie Wagtail on its nest and/or feeding its two very naked chicks.
Now any group that does that as a hobby interests me. You see I am a long term bushwalker, an environmental campaigner (I have been in various State positions of the National Parks Association of NSW for many years), a birdwatcher and an amateur photographer. Since I stopped working as a Head Teacher of History two years ago all of it is coming together and I am often out walking, studying nature and attempting to take photos of that nature. Now I wish to learn more about the art of photography itself.
My name is Brian Everingham and I live in the southern suburbs of Sydney (Engadine) but you'll find me in many national parks across the State.

Welcome aboard and great to meet you, Brian. I was one of the group that you met on your way back from your walk and suggested that you join AP and it's great to see that you have.

Still learning to upload photos here so that might take time. In the meantime, today is a day at the cricket and very different photographic techniques, albeit without those large lenses used by sports journalists! At least we are high above the bowler's arm from the southern end so there will be opportunities to do OK with a 300mm lens. I suspect fast speeds, small aperture and high ISO to capture the action but I might also try to capture movement and do some tracking shots. I might be too far from the action to do well with those, however!

Some instructional stuff here : http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=Indexes:How_Do_I
PS you cannot take a 300mm lens into the cricket, check the entry terms and conditions. Also you cannot post Cricket Australia Photos onto this site. Again refer to the entry terms and conditions, they are for private use only.
Points 2,4 and 5 should get you on your way to posting photos ....... http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=Indexes:How_Do_I
