Hi Everyone,

I'm Sheepie. I first started lurking on these boards almost 2 years ago when I finally started making use of my Canon PowerShot SX210 and realised I was actually enjoying this whole photography malarkey, so maybe I should start researching equipment and technique. At the time I only knew analogue zoom was better than digital, so purchased this point & shoot purely for its 14x optical zoom. I soon realised I was a bit of a zoom fanatic, loved being able to get in close to wildlife and objects I couldn't physically get close to. Being a zoom fanatic is one thing about me that still hasn't changed.

Lurking both here and other sites I picked up a wealth of great advice which translated in May 2012 into a Canon 60D with twin lens kit. IMHO this was the perfect starting spot for me, the walkaround 18-55 for general usage plus the 55-250 for wildlife and other zoom-whoring occasions. It wasn't long though before both lenses felt restrictive, the 55m was always just that LITTLE bit too short when walking around, and the 250m of the other lens, while ok, could be so much better.

In 15 months I've been unable to contain myself, delved deep into savings and now have
Tamrom 90m f2.8 Macro - I'm not patient enough for bugs, yet. Just use this atm for flora.
Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 - Every day walkaround lens replacing the kit Canon 18-55.
Sigma 50-500 F4.5-6.3 - aka the happy lens, because using it for wildlife etc gives me a happy.
Lensbaby Spark - More of a gimmick, occasional fun, doesn't come out very often.

I've somewhat run out of ideas for places to shoot, I seem to be revisiting the same old haunts over and over again as my flickr account will attest to - http://www.flickr.com/photos/bastardsheep/sets - I guess that's why I'm making a return to the forums. I'd love some suggestions for flora & fauna shots that I haven't been to before. Now with the 50-500, I'm especially interested in birds and fauna. I spend most of my weekends in the Western Sydney region (Penrith, Parramatta, Windsor, and the Blue Mountains), though weekdays are North Sydney and surrounds.

Any tips for locations in/around Western Sydney, especially for fauna, would be greatly appreciated. I'm also hoping I can give back at least a smidge of what I've gotten out of these forums in my lurking 15 months ago in the leadup to my 60D purchase.

Welcome. Based on you being a Flicker member since 2009, and thus interested in photography since at least that time, we have upgraded you to intermediate level

See you on the forums
