Hi Guys,

I'll be traveling alone at the end of the year. More than likely I'll be staying at camping grounds over night.

If I wanted to charge my batteries for the DSLR whilst I was in the car, would that still be possible? Are there cables out there which plug into the cigarette lighter and allow me to charge the batter? I'm looking for a figure 8 power cord with a cigarette lighter plug on the other end.

I'm using a Nikon MH-25 charger btw.

They are called power inverters and they convert 12v car systems to 240v. Basically they plug into a car power socket and have a normal power point socket at the other end.

Hi Phil,

I use 12v chargers for cameras when camping.

Better Batt sell a combo charger unit that comes with both 240v & 12v adapters for a reasonable price.

If you buy a pure sine wave inverter, then it can be used to run your laptop as well.

If you don't want 240v, you can get 12v "cigarette lighter hubs" with 3 or 4 sockets and some come with a USB port for your phone or tablet.

if you are staying at camping grounds with a camp kitchen, you can use the power outlets there to charge up. I was at Dubbo over June school hols and there were a few people doing that whilst camping in non-powered sites.

Id look on ebay for a thirdparty 12v charger for your battery type.

Simplest and best way to charge from a 12v power source.

BTW I have two(now).
I originally got one for my D70s about 7 years ago, and as it fit the battery for the D300, I kept using it for the D300 as well.

The D800 battery is different, so had to do it all again.
Got a battery and charger for $20 delivered(took a while to come tho, as delivery was free) ... and it also charges perfectly :th3:

MH-25 implies a EN-EL15 battery type, so here's a typical ebay listing: EN-EL15 charger on ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Battery-Charger-for-Nikon-EN-EL15-ENEL15-D7100-D7000-D600-D800-D800E-1-V1-New-/281108594045?pt=AU_Cameras_Photographic_Accessories&hash=item417360bd7d)

Agreed. 240V DC-AC power inverters are inefficient and unnecessary. Check eBay for a 12v battery charger (search for 'your camera model' + '12v battery charger' or something like 'MH-25 12v charger'. I paid under $10 for mine.
