Thinking of a photo trip into the wilds of Canada and Alaska. anybody been and any advice to give please....

I went to the Yukon Territories in Canada in Feb. Did aurora viewing, dog sledding & snow mobile riding. Hire your winter gear over there if you are going in winter. If you plan on seeing the Northern Lights then you will want to go around the new moon time so moonlight doesn't affect your viewing. Take zip lock plastic bags to put your camera gear in out in the cold / snow so it doesn't get condensation when you go into warmer areas. We didn't have an issue with batteries being affected by the cold, seemed to last long enough, keep spares warm in your pockets. Take a backup camera, do everything, have fun.
