Is the Lee polariser really worth $500 and who really uses them?

Joe.

I have the Cokin Z-Pro one and that is several $hundred too, and yes I use it.

I wouldn't invest in them unless you really plan on using them, otherwise the Cokin P series or (Z series) are great too! Which I use all the time!

Mongo has been researching ND filters for a while now with a view to buying the right one. There are some stupidly priced ones out there.

not surprisingly, the Tiffen brand outperformed all of the best known and most expensive ones. TheTiffen is far from cheap but in some cases it was half to a third the price of the other big name ones.

if Mongo were you, he would do some research and pick the right one for price and performance. Mongo strongly suspects it will not be a $500 polariser

Thanks guys, I do plan on using a polariser and always believe in getting the best I can afford. I have Lee filters and holders already which is why i am asking. Mongo, thanks for the heads up on the Tiffen, I will check them out.
Joe.

What lens are you using it on? Can you not use a normal screw in circular polariser from say B&W - which are supposed to be the best. You can pick them up for probably half that cost. I have a B+W 77mm Slim Kasemann Polarising XS-Pro Nano MRC Filter that cost me about $250 and it is excellent.

G'day Lance.
The lenses I will use it on is a Canon 24-105 and a Sigma 10-20. I would like to avoid the screw in types as I want to use the Lee type filters.

When I had the Lee 100mm system I used a 77mm screw in CPL and mounted the Lee holder in front of it. It was good to around 11mm with the WA adapter ring.

I do exactly the same as Hakka, and it works perfectly fine:)

Have plans to use the same setup. My lee filter adapter arrived last week so hopefully in the next few days I can try it out in the field. It did not seem like too much hassle when i screwed it all together inside but a lot of people say it can be frustrating. When the alternative is $3-400 for a 100mm polariser I think an extra couple of minutes to get it right will be fine with me.
