Went for a day trip to Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran today. It was devastated by fire a little over three months ago.
Had a few hours travelling and stopping on the main road through the park. One walk to a lookout, one picnic ground and Siding Spring Observatory are open.
There would probably be rural roads north of the park that are open, though we didn't have time to visit there.
If you live within a day trip or are passing by, it is worth a visit. The destruction is still obvious and some of the regeneration is amazing.

It's disappointing when you go somewhere like this and virtually the whole place is inaccessible. The same things happened to us a few years ago after the floods in the Grampians.

^ we knew that would be the case. Two friends (who also went), better half and I are all in the R.F.S., so just wanted to see the landscape for a few hours.
