I watched the last episode of an SBS series on the telly last night called "The Dust Bowl". It's a four-part documentary narrated by actor Peter Coyote giving us an insight into a 10 year drought and the consequences of it on the farmers of Oklahoma in the 1930's - 40's.
I highly recommend you grab a copy of the DVD if you love those old fashioned black and white images taken with box brownies and the likes. Some of the images really depict how hard the "Oakey's" living conditions were as they dealt with huge dust storms, dust pneumonia and failure of crops.
Anyone else happened to catch this excellent series? :)

Yep. I caught all four episodes. Must admit that I only caught the first one by accident, but then made sure I saw the rest. Well worth seeing if only, as you say, for the old B&W photos. They certainly did it tough in that period.
