Camera Hand Straps and Recommendations

This subject does not appeared to have covered much. I have been carrying the old Canon 5DMk2 around via a std neck strap for a few years. Been looking at the hand straps. Any thoughts or recommendations on this. I have been advised this can help considerably with stability etc off the tripod??

If I am going the hand strap path I was looking at getting the Camadaptor (Manfrotto Neoprene Adaptor) and a Prostrap-about $80 from the US. Some good write ups on these. What is your experience and do you have a recommendation??

I have just travelled for a couple of weeks with a (cheap) R -strap and a handstrap (also cheap from eBay) and find both great. I liked the reassurance of the hand strap when sitting in boats etc where the low point of the R strap could be on a hard seat or floor.

I have just ordered another handstrap, as the plastic base attached to the tripod mount inherently lead to a bending tension crack; new models have a flat mount which will not have this problem.

I did catch the R strap fastener almost unscrewed a couple of times; I think adding a rubber washer may overcome this hazard - more money for a higher quality would be another way to go.

i brought a cheap hand strap - found no use for it.
very happy with the BlackRapid shoulder strap. Way better than a neck strap, especially if your out at street sprints for 2 days etc. makes a huge difference.

Ian ( above ) mentions a rubber washer for the R strap - the original gear comes with this and i think isn't too expensive.

I double for the Blackrapid shoulder strap. Love it! Fits well and takes the weight nicely.....no neck pain. You can adjust it so the camera can sit on your back, for when riding the bike etc. I tried that with an old film camera on a bike ride with the family once (didn't trust it with the Canon) and it worked really well, so well infact I would happily tether the Canon this way and ride the bike.
