I'm finally getting around to updating my gear and I thought I'd start with a new tripod but I can't decide which way to go with the head. I mainly shoot landscapes with the odd portrait. I've decided on a Manfrotto 055X Pro tripod http://http://www.camerastore.com.au/camera-accessories/tripods-1/consumer-tripods-1/manfrotto-055x-pro-black-tripod.htmlbut can't decide between the Manfrotto 322RC2 http://http://www.camerastore.com.au/camera-accessories/tripods-1/tripod-heads-1/manfrotto-322rc2-heavy-duty-grip-ball-head.html or the Manfrotto 808RC4 http://http://www.camerastore.com.au/camera-accessories/tripods-1/tripod-heads-1/manfrotto-808rc4-standard-3-way-head.html .

I understand the 3 way head will be more precise and the ball head more quicker but I'm still struggling to decide, what do you guys use?

Hi there. I got the 055 in the carbon and it`s a great tripod. I also got the Markins ball head to go with it. A good combo I reckon.

Hey Cascade, what did you decide to go with? I too am looking at upgrading my gear and am wondering how your combo turned out.

Might have to PM him, that way'll he'll get a notification about your question as threads can sometimes fall down the list real fast XD

I have the same combo as the OP. The tripod is great. I did not like the head as much and have not used it for a long time. I use a RRS pano head now.

Hi Langers, I ended up getting the Manfrotto 055X ProB Tripod and the Manfrotto 410 geared head. It's working really well for me, the head has the advantage of slow precise movement as well as quickly moving into an altogether different position like a portrait just by releasing the gear on whatever axis you are adjusting. The head usually has my 5D mk3 and 28-70 2.8 hanging off it and it never slips at all.

The tripod while not the lightest around is defiantly rock solid, I've had it set up in some breezy conditions and it's never moved.
