Hi,
Can anyone tell me why a have an SD that has all of a sudden become write protected.
I can still use the card...I just reformat the card in the camera each time I want to clear it.
Cheers .... :xmas31:

On the side of the card is often a small switch, that can be the write protect switch. My guess is you have probably accidentally moved the switch

Hi .... checked the switch and it's in the correct position.
I would do the following :-
1) Take the card out of the camera and format it on a PC using a card reader, if that works fine then you can insert it back in the camera and reformat it and you should be okay from there
2) Purchase another card, SD cards have a finite life some will last for years while others give up and just won't work. At a guess I suspect that if an SD card is inserted in camera and an SD card reader the gold contacts on the card can get worn and not make good contact this could be an indicator that things are about to get worse. One other thing I have just thought of is the contacts may be dirty, With a soft cloth not cotton wool use some ethyle alcohol (used for electronics, if not metho will do) gently rub the card contact fingers, or use your thumb and index finger to hold the dampened cloth and pull the card between your thumb and index finger a few times. Make sure it is dry and looks clean to the eye before putting it back in the camera.
Kind Regards
Livio
Dirt or possibly a faulty write protect switch, try moving it back and forwards a few times.

Spot on to those who recommended cleaning the card.
One quick wipe and it is now working fine.
Thanks for the replies....:2smile:
