Used Canon Body ~$1400

Hey All,
Looking at upgrading the 400D to something a bit better. I'll be keeping the 60D so video mode isn't a problem. Looking to buy second-hand as can then get a better body for the money.
Looking at a few options... 7D, 1D mkIII, 5D mkII or perhaps even wait and get a grey 6D. Out of this bunch (Or if you can suggest something else) which one would be the pick. I mainly use the 24-105 and am looking at a 70-200 down the track so having EF-S Lenses isn't an issue.
I'll make sure the second-hand one that I get is in good condition, so don't worry about excessive shutter usage etc. I'll check it out before I buy.

The 5d 2 is about $1600 grey and 7d about $1100. That is NEW price. Keep looking and you will find something you like cheers Brian

personally prefer the 1dmk3 over the 7d for sports, just the extra fps, focusing speed and feel of the body. also nicer feel of the body and more customisation.
If you want to shoot more sports id go 1dmk3 , but for more still life, general shooting i usually go for the 5d2 becuase of nicer IQ dont get me wrong the 1dmk3 is still a nice sensor.

The 1dmk3 is pretty cheap imo second hand, i paid 2.25k a few years ago and I think it was worth it, now they are a steal :th3:

Another vote for the 1DIII! Only problem is once you get used to 1D's you'll never want to go back.. ;)

I'll second and third the 1D, I have the Mk11N and for sport it is a great body, no question.
I still have my 50D though, for all land-seascape work that I love to shoot.
What's your main photographic interest, that will and should sway your decission somewhat, as to lenses also.

I've been doing a bit more research myself and am teetering quite dangerously towards the 1D3. Looking in to a couple at the moment for around $1400, will keep you updated. :)

The early release of the 1D 111 had a mirror box issue/failure, they failed at a fairly early age/shutter actuation. Just be careful, you can get the counts done on both (Software- google it), or ask a good camera shop with a repair center to investigate before you part with your hard earned. Alot where rectified under warranty.

Wobbles may be able to add more to this, as from memory he looked/investigated it as well.

But a very good body none the less.

Hello Again,
Someone I know has lent me a 1D Mark 2 for a week or so to try out mainly to get a feel of the body style, although he said it is for sale for $600 with under 30k actuations. I've been looking into a 1D3 for about $1400 and that model is two years old with no AF problems and also under 30k actuations. Are there any major differences between the M2 or M3? The $800 saving would allow for some more gear purchases.

The major difference between the 1d2 & 1d3 is speed, sensor quality and buffering write speeds, focus and the list is endless. You can read up on the 1 d2 on Bryan's site and then the Mk3 and see for yourself.
