Introducing myself

Hi, I'm Valerie A, I live in Adelaide, SA and I am fairly new to digital SLR photography. I have a Canon EOS 1100D camera and three Canon lenses - 18-55mm, 55-250mm, and one prime lens 50mm f1.8. I haven't managed to buy a flash unit yet - I am just using the flash that came with the camera. I like doing portraits, landscapes, plant photography and photo-journalism. I am also new to Photoship Elements 10 and am finding it difficult to get started with it. I really want to learn how to use the layers to isolate the backgrounfd layer and erase unwanted objects/people. I have some portraits I really like that were taken at social events and are let-down by the backgrounds, which I couldn't control at the time. I am not having much luck on the Adobe help-site in finding a video on layers for Elements 10. I also can't find a course in Adelaide that is specific to Elements 10. I am hoping that being a member of this forum will assist me to get over these 'mewby' humps. I am also relatively new to online forums, so it will be interesting to see how I go with this one!

Maybe have a look at the New to Photography (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=Indexes:New_To_Photography_Book) book and the Learning Plan in the book.
