Just got my first decent camera mostly to shoot holidays, parties and general mayhem.

Picked up a 60D and a Canon 17-55 2.8 a couple weeks ago which worked a treat on a recent trip to Bali for a friends wedding. I wanted to try something with a little more reach so found a used 55-250 on gumtree yesterday and must say it really feels like a massive step down after only having used the 17-55.

If I find the length useful I guess I might buy get one of the 70-200 Canon lenses.

Anyway really just posted here as apparently I can't see most of this forum until I post something. I really am a complete novice when it comes to photography but have already picked up a lot of useful info through trail and error and by scouring the net.

I attached one of my better efforts from the trip.

Welcome to the forum. Lots to learn here, but the best fun is to get out and shoot and use trial and error.

Hi El Pedro (?Pedro).
Join in and we can help. For instance, start a new thread and tell us what you are finding difficult about the 55-250 lens.
That is, why it is a "step down".
Am.

G'day El Pedro, you've found a good place to share and learn.
Here is a good reference place of a "novice" http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showlibrary.php?title=Indexes:New_To_Photography_Book

Agree with Mark L. This is a great place to learn and expand your skill set. Remember to post. As for the lens. Remember the adage. Lens will last a life time so spend care and target what you really want/need. Bodies (especially now in the digital world) have a finite life.
