Got a pleasant surprise on Saturday. Shot an event and got 1700 RAW + JPG from a single LP-E6. Not bad for a small battery. Is that typical of others' experiences?

Its normal these days for the latest semi pro/pro bodies, as long as one doesnt chimp much or at all, you can get a lot of mileage from a single battery charge:)

Yep I'll often get well over 1000 shots from a battery. Only problem is because of that I sometimes forget to charge them!

That's reason I have two. One is always fully charged, and I just keep using the first one until it goes completely flat. Only charge the flat one when I get home and leave the other one as is.

Tim

Yeah I do to, but they both live in the battery grip. There is one thing I don't like about the grip though, it discharges both batteries at the same rate which means I end up with both flat at the same time. A real pain at times.

I've done shoots with my 5D3 where I've taken over 700 photos + some video in one go, including plenty of chimping, and the battery was still half full.
Better than my 60D which uses the same type of battery.
What's chimping? - New term on me!

Chimping is looking at the LCD on the back of your camera. Not very flattering is it?

Do you know why it's called chimping?
It's because when you look at the screen at the wonderful photos you've just taken, you go "OOH, OOH, OOH!" :D
True.

Some photographers never do chimping because it's not professional... They just wait until they get home and then find all the photos they took and didn't review are bad.
