I currently own: 50D, 5D2, 1Div - Lenses I am happy with so they are out of scope as far as this goes.

1Div I will keep as my 'sports' or 'birding' body - 1.3 being the factor I am thinking of here for the added reach.

Question is, what would be the benefit from selling the 50D and 5D2 and getting either a 5D3 or 1Dx - the 1Dx being the preferred option because I am lost as to why the 5D3 and 1Dx exist in the same market - are they that different and how?

Let's imagine cost is not a factor - what benefit would I get from changing from a 5D2 to either the 5D3 or 1Dx??

Thanks in anticipation

Better focussing systems, newer and faster processors, more FPS and better high ISO picture quality and they are both more rugged than a 5D2.

The 1Dx is better (in some cases just marginally) at virtually everything in comparison to a 5D3, and a 5D3 is better at everything in comparison to a 5D2.

Hope that answers your question.

Are you a fan of Digital Rev ? I've found their reviews to be a fantastic research/decision making tool. They have you tube reviews on the 5d mark 3 and the 1Dx, and from what I just watched next week they are doing a review on them ... one vs the other.

+1 here, hit the nail on the head.
If moneys no object then go the 1dx for it's slightly better features and performance or go for excellent value of the 5d3

The 5D3 is better than the 1D X at 'compact' and 'lightweight', which are genuine attributes!

The 5D3 has more megapixels hence higher resolution, but not significantly.

The 1D X's advantages are of course far more numerous.
