First post - hi all!!

So, my questions for the gear heads:

I've been shooting for many years now and recently been considering getting myself a speedlight (I use a D90).

With my limited research into this it seems the bees-knees is the SB-900. I was pretty much writing the cheque until I saw the SB-910 is considerably cheaper. From my scratchings on the interwebs it seems the SB-910 is the SB-900 improved to reduce thermal cutout.

So why is the new-and-improved version - with all the same specs, but better! - be cheaper than the model it supersedes?

This does not mesh with my worldview! Am I missing something?

Cheers,
S

I have had an SB900 since not long after they were released. I agree that the SB910 has some small improvements over its predecessor, and yes it is cheaper, so if I was buying now, the SB910 would be my choice. As to why, I have no idea. At release of the SB910, it was selling at around $550.00 and the SB900 was about $450.00 (buying grey market).

But don't complain, the SB910 is a good buy at present.

Okay, thanks for the sanity check. I can't see why anybody would buy the SB900 at present. I'd have thought they price the SB910 dearer and reduce the SB900 to clear stock. They so crazy.

But anyway...sold! I'll take one SB910 please. Here is my money.
