Each year on AP we run a poll of members camera brand usage. So it is time to start the 2012 Poll

Please vote for the PRIMARY camera brand you use.

For info the 2011 poll is here (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?81498) and the 2010 poll is here (http://www.ausphotography.net.au/forum/showthread.php?62527)

On another forum (Photograpy on the Net) (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1182416) it was observed that there are strong regional differences in brand dominance. But... Canon seems to be strong.
However, like the 4DW ad on TV some years ago.... "You're either a Canon man or a Nikon man"... :)

That is very true. Go to China and Nikon's are everywhere, they dominate the market in China by a massive margin. But as this is Ausphotography, we just poll our members, who are mostly Australian

Pentax through and through. Upgraded from Pentax Me Super to a Pentax K-r and never looked back. Well maybe a few looks back over my old photos :D

Same old same old story Benny, people always pick an MX5 over a Porsche on price instead of ultimate ability.

Ummm. Yes! Read the original post, it has links to the 2010 and 2011 polls, and as said, we do it each year.

The MX-5, like Canon, is just better value for money. :D

Yeah I got to bite that one Benny, much the same as whilst the MX5 is quite a bit cheaper than the nearest "entry level Porsche" and does a fair percentage of the tasks it is asked to do ( but not ultimately) it seems quite at odds with the fact that the D800 has just been voted as a desirable produc (http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/05/15/Nikon-D800-Camera-Grand-Prix-2012-Sony-NEX-7-Olympus-Zuiko-45mm-F1-8)t and in extremely short supply whilst the Canon non competition sits on shelves everywhere unsold and unloved at a higher price.

Maybe, but the Canon RANGE of cameras still outsell the Nikon range of cameras in most countries around the world.

A company is not successful just because of one model!

Anyway, I'll still be buying a 5D3 over the D800.
I think it is a better all around camera., for my uses at any rate.

Aren't you Nikon guys ever happy! :)

The D800 by all accounts is a fantastic body.

I'm always happy but this is the ideal thread for people to take a swipe at all and sundry in the nicest ways of course.:D

Not really, cos all the defectors to the dark side from Canon outweighed a minor shift in the figures. :p

Funny, that's what the Porsche owners say about Ferrari ---------

Canon. But not yet convinced it was the right decision. Still can't get it to focus where it says it will.

I was surprised by the amount of pentax over there - as a third brand.

Every Camera has it's pros and cons. I Like finding out what mine is. When I think it's crook I google and find out it's me. It's like Golf, what's your handicap? my attitude. Lol

The problem with most people is they invest so much in lenses that it's not easy (or cheap) to swap brands. So for me I will most likely always be Canon.

I'd still push my Canon/s rather than drive a Nikon.
But each to their own.

Nikon = Helping stop the stupid people from driving a Canon.
Opions, < > , every body has got one!

When I voted Nikon was just behind. Now I come back for a second look and Canon has really pulled away.

I think this proves that Canon users are just a bit slow.

1 year now with Nikon ;).

If case you are interested, I came from FujiFilm FinePix. Before digital cameras I used Canon 300 (rebel) after Pentax K1000.

I think I'd have to say I am completely Nikon. D4, D300 and D80. No wish or need to go to Canon.

I remember that the first SLR I ever bought was a Canon A1. Went into hibernation from photography for a 20 odd years. Then received a 350D as a gift a couple of years back and started taking up photograpy again. My wife bought me a 7D last year and looking forward to buying a 5D should my skills improve (soon I hope). :D

My old film camera is a Nikon FM2 (still love it) and also ran a F601 for a long time.
First digital camera was a Canon 350D before changing to a 1DMkIII. Now looking at full frame and, with a line of Canon glass for digital, I am quite happy to stay with Canon.
So I guess to poll with one word it will have to be Canon :)

Switched from a Canon 50D to Nikon D7000 two years ago and havn't looked back.

Two reasons for the switch - was constantly have to fix white balance on the Canon. Canon was great for still people/objects but for sport nothing special.

My first sport image from the Nikon was my best in the last 5 years, and it is now a very rare thing for me to mess with the white balance.

Anyway you use what works for you :)

Please don't let this thread become a 'my brand is better' thread. Vote, post about what brand you have, but leave out digs at other brands. Otherwise I will close the thread for posts and only allow voting. We are all photographers and our photos are what counts, not what label is stamped on our gear.

Just made my new purchase of a Canon 5D Mk III and a new L series 17-40 lens. Should be getting my hands on it tomorrow when the courier delivers. Upgraded from Canon 350D which I am thinking of converting to IR. I had the chance to switch brands to Nikon as I really had to buy new glass but in the end stuck with canon after researching online.

A very wise choice.
You'll love the 5D3.
I upgraded from a 60D, and I'm smitten by it.

The beast is the miniscule Minolta CLE, a joint M mount venture between Minolta and Leica in the 80's.

This is all I could come up with at the moment. 40mm Rokkor attached.
