Greetings all
Sydney Vivid comes around again, starting on Friday 25 May and going through to Monday 11 June.
I thought it may be opportune to start a thread and organise a meet for the first Saturday, 26 May. The idea behind the first Saturday is that it tends to be less crowed than later ones and if the weather is crap, you have a few more you can go to.
Still a few weeks away, post here is interested and you want to do a quick meal before-hand or just start with a meet up.

I was just about to put up a thread as well Peter but you beat me to it. I'm certainly coming.
I was also wondering if anyone was interested in a Mt Tomah/Mt Wilson meet in the next couple of weeks as the autumn colours have arrived I believe.
I'm interested in the Vivid meet!! a meal before hand sounds good. Sailors Thai is right there and the food is awesome!!!:th3:

Hi Sydney AP'rs
I would love to go to Mt wilson/tomah soon, before those leaves are on the ground.
Vivid sounds good too, but is a weekday evening less crowded? Just a thought, I am happy to attend on the agreed night.
Cheers
Phil
Hi all. Whilst Sydney is over 6 hours away we wouldn't mind attending. I will see if I can get a day or two off work and try and get there this year. We missed last years event by a day as we had just flown out of Australia. Put us as a tentative.

Maybe a meet for Saturday 28 April. We have done Mt Tomah for the last couple of years. Maybe Mt Wilson - hopefully it isn't too late. There were some open gardens there a couple of weeks back and it was mentioned (on the radio), that there are no local cafes at the moment so you will need to pack a picnic. Remember last year, food was impossible at Mt Tomah anyway.
Wings Over Illawarra is the following weekend.

Mt Wilson - I will play by ear depending on date.

I will post more details nearer the date but I would expect possibly meet up for an optional sunset (4:55 pm) with light show starting at 6pm. For those not doing sunset, we could meet up/re-group around 5:45pm. The light show gets turned off about midnight but generally, people start going their own way (if the group has not split into smaller mini-groups) around 9:30pm.
If you want to do a sunset, Observatory Hill Park is good and you could bring dinner in a bag and picnic there (just a thought) before going on to the light show.
Anyway, still 5-weeks off.

It's on my calendar so I'll be there. :)

Oooh! I missed this last year!! Count me in (I'm on holidays at that time too! Hurray!! Nice timing!!). There may be a few people wanting to come with me, but I'm not sure yet. Definitely count me in though! I missed it last year with you guys and ended up going the week after with a very bored friend. Can't wait!

It will be good to see you. Leave the bored ones behind. Too much fun to be had on the night.

I hope you have a great night with us binnie - just be prepared for the crowds. Hopefully they won't be too bad seeing that we are going on the second day of the event. :D
Any more info on exact times/places for meeting yet?
missed out last year. let me know the exact time and place

Greetings all. For those that want to do the sunset to the west, we will meet up in Observatory Hill Park near the rotunda at around 4:20 PM.
Note, sunset is at 4:56 PM and "last light" at 5:23.
For those gathering at Observatory Hill, you might like to bring some eaties or have an early dinner/picnic.
After sunset we will then re-convene at Circular Quay near wharf #5 at 6:00 PM.
Cheers
Peter
Whats the parking like around there or is it better to catch a train?
peterb666

Some have parked at Harrington Street in previous years - around $15 flat rate on weekends. Street parking is far more expensive. Main place to avoid for parking is Opera House Carpark which ends it weekend flat rate around 5pm. Don't drive down George Street - you would need to set out today ;)

Train is a good option if you don't mind training home late at night.
I think driving and parking is the way to go only because I'll be taking the tripod. Thanks for the heads up on the Harrington St parking.
Joe.

trains are down this weekend,
"On Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace trains through the CBD, on the Airport Line, and for all stops between Summer Hill and Macdonaldtown on the Inner West Line."
Second the Harrington st car park under the QuayWest apartments. I used to park there on weekends.
I am also starting to think about Vivid. Can I bring a friend who is not an APer? As I've only ever been to one meet I'm not sure what the etiquitte regarding this is:)
I cant see why not ktoopi, i took my wife to my 1st meet up and there was others with their partners as well.
Looks like you may have to put up with me again on this meet.
Glenn, are you bringing a long lens? :D
I think I will park at Harrington St. about 4:00pm and stroll up to the rotunda for the sunset.
I suggest that you bring along a good windcheater, it can get cold. :(

Partners, friends, children and small hairy creatures are fine. I am bringing a friend, Robyn.
... then I have had a few friends that never come to a second meet. :scrtch:
Glenn, are you bringing a long lens? :D
It's not a full moon mate so probably not. :D Though don't forget to bring padding for your tripod legs. ;)
Map for the event is now available (http://www.vividsydney.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/vivid_program_map1.pdf), stretches all the way around to Walsh Bay this year, should be interesting. Long rage forecast is for a windy night, down to 10 degrees, so wear something warm !

Now was that aimed at me or am I just paranoid?!!! :p

OK - I think that is the list. Remember that if you are doing the sunset bit in Observatory Hill, we will be meeting by 4:20 near the rotunda.
We will then head down to Circular Quay near wharf #6 around 6pm for those not doing the sunset. With this sort of number, we tend to break into smaller groups so if possible, we might try and get a group shot a Circular Quay before heading to the usual vantage points.
If you can confirm if you are doing sunset or only the 6pm meet-up, please someone try and keep track. Any omissions or deletions, please post into the forum. I may have a bit off difficulty keeping track of this as I am going to be very busy for the next couple of days so volunteers to update the thread, most appreciated.

Ness, judy, Erin and myself are all coming in together. We are leaving around 3:45pm so we will meet you at Observatory Hill when we arrive. We will probably miss most of the sunset - depending on the traffic but OHill is a good place to meet.
See you all at Observatory Hill - looking forwards to this heaps - Livio

Seems like a good turn out. Note that I will be losing my home broadband internet connection today for a couple of weeks and will only have the painful Mobile Internet (and some people think that is a substitute for NBN - LoL)
We have made it to Sydney and will meet you at Circular Quay at 6pm. We look forward to meeting you all.

My wife and my self shall meet you at OHill.

Thank you for organising this, Peter!! I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with everyone again! I hope to get some shots up soon!
Bugger, didn't get to meet any AP'rs would have liked to though. Never mind I turned up to Observatory Hill, watched the sun set then walked over the bridge, then walked around to Luna Park took some happy snaps, walked over the bridge again to Circular Quay, around the Opera House back to the rocks and the Overseas Passenger Terminal, around the Hilton on the Water and back to Town Edge Car Park at just after 11:00 pm. There was so much to see I had a ball might even go again using a different lens this time.
Kind Regards

Missed you too Livio. We were all near the rotunda an OH and didn't move from there until around 5:40pm. Glad that you had a great time anyway. Maybe we will see you at the next meet. :)
Hi all. We have just got back to Armidale. We had a great time last night and loved meeting you all. Thank you all for showing us the ropes and the lights of Sydney. We will try and get our photos processed over the next couple of days and post a couple.

Hi Guys,
it was nice to meet all of you. I had a blast and learnt some useful tips too...
