There doesn't seem to be a thread on the new Nikon D4 (well a few untargeted or closed threads).

So, who has one?
Who's getting one?
What prices have you seen (AU and grey-market stock)?
What have you seen published in print or on the web?

I have a price coming from my local camera store on one today or tomorrow, they are trying to get down to about $6,500 which seems like a reasonable price. I'm looking to buy in May and hopefully a friend of mine (press photographer) is keen to buy then too, we may be able to barter better if we buy two.

For those who are interested, the manual for the D4 is available from Nikon USA.

Weird that there isn't a thread on one of these particularly given that most Aussie retailers now have stock maybe the D800 stole the lime light.

There are samples a plenty available now ... HERE'S ONE (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/nikon-d4/nikon-d4A7.HTM).

There seems to be a small incremental increase in quality overall compared to the D3s, at higher ISOs, and this appears to be mainly in better colour detail more than anything else.

About 1 stop better ISO performance from the D4 compared to the D3s.

Thanks! Looking at that I can expect about 2-stops advantage in usable ISO. That will come in enormously handy for poorly lit music gigs.

I started looking into pricing today and had some interesting feedback.

My local store said the RRP $7,499 but they could do it for $7,100 cash. They said that was absolute rock bottom and that Nikon had given them the best price they could. Looking at what other AU-stock storres are listing the price at I certainly believe them. However, I cam across a Melbourne-based online store which is selling the D4 for $6,567.80 including delivery! I emailed them and they said it is definitely genuine Nikon Australia-sourced stock meaning I can add it to my NPS membership (important).

Has anyone dealt with DiscountCameras.com.au (http://www.discountcameras.com.au/discountcameras/view_product/37717) before? The testimonials on their site seems to show a lot of happy campers. You can pay via PayPal, so that offers some protection also. Apparently they will have stock by the weeks end.

Another snippet of information I found out was there are 300 D4's on back order and Nikon AU get shipments of 30-45 in at a time. At that rate some people could be waiting a while!

Haven't dealt with Discount Cameras and I would be a little cautious, though their price is not ridiculously low like some other dodgy online sellers. If you are protected via Paypal I suppose it's worth a try.

From what I've seen it's ISO performance is very similar to the d3s, higher it goes but at the expense of detail....d3s seems the best buy to me....

Interesting. D800, Australian stock for $3283.58 with free shipping, estimated delivery time 2 weeks.

Hmm.

They do list their address on the site, and the guy was quick to reply to email (and very polite). I spend a fair bit of time on the mainland, I would be easily able to stop in there to "ruffle some feathers" if it didn't turn up. Agreed on the PayPal thing though. If I pay with my CC via PayPal then I'll have double protection, haha.

This is pretty awesome. Also shows the mirror box shooting 11fps, filmed at 1000fps.

AboutDiscountCameras you can look at http://www.nikon.com.au/en_AU/dealers.page and see. I'm not sure if you MUST be listed there to offer local warranty...
